Built in the 16th century, a striking manor house stands in front of a larger 14th-century complex. Thomas Butler, the 10th Earl of Ormond, added the north range, now known as the Manor House, to the existing structures.
This manor features a classic layout with a magnificent long gallery. The standout of the Tudor house is its decorative plasterwork, showcasing some of Ireland’s finest early examples, including plasterwork portraits in the state rooms.
Ormond Castle is open seasonally, with audio-visuals and tech installations bringing its history to life. The Tour includes the original roof structures where Cromwell’s soldiers were billeted.
Guided tours are offered, and guidebooks are available in multiple languages: English, Irish, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Access for disabled visitors is limited.
