Designed in 1732 by renowned architect Sir Edward Lovett Pearce, Cashel Palace was originally built for Church of Ireland Archbishop Theophilus Bolton. Pearce, who later designed Dublin’s Parliament House, gave the palace its distinctive Palladian style. The striking red brick front contrasts with the limestone rear, an unusual combination for the period. Noteworthy features include Venetian-style windows and a crowned harp above the entrance—a fire mark from the Hibernian Insurance Company.
Lavishly constructed with ornate interiors, Cashel Palace has long been associated with luxury and hospitality. Many original features remain intact, preserving its rich historical character.
Set on 25 acres with lush gardens and a grand driveway, Cashel Palace boasts a private walkway, “The Bishops Walk,” leading directly to the historic Rock of Cashel. This ancient site, home to a 13th-century cathedral, offers stunning views and rich history. The palace faced political turmoil during the 1798 Wolfe Tone Rebellion but was later restored in elegant Regency style by the 1st Earl of Normanton.
Over the years, Cashel Palace has hosted notable guests like Jacqueline Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, Ronald Reagan, and Princess Diana. Once owned by legendary horse trainer Vincent O’Brien, it was later purchased by the Magnier family in 2016. Today, after extensive restoration, it has transformed into a stunning five-star Relais & Châteaux property, offering luxury and a deep connection to Ireland’s racing legacy.
