Writer Margaret O’Brien is an affiliate of Amherst Writers & Artists, with a remit to make writing as an art form accessible to all. She runs Writing Changes Lives, and in Carrick-on-Suir collaborates with Brewery Lane Theatre and The Tudor Artisan Hub to support creative engagement in the town and its hinterland. She has been running the monthly open mic, Poetry Plus, for more than a decade in the tearoom of Brewery Lane Theatre, Carrick-on-Suir. It runs from September through May/June each year and all are welcome.
In recent years Margaret O’Brien and the writers from Writing Changes Lives have engaged collaboratively with Linda Fahy and The Tudor Artisan Hub on cross-disciplinary creative projects that have successfully pushed the boundaries of art, community and creative expression. Her book, ‘Weather Report: a 90-day journal’, arose out of one such project.
Margaret is also founding editor of the international literary journal, Trasna, is a ‘Blue Pencil’ editor with AWA, and regularly facilitates writing workshops and related events on Zoom. Her own writing has been published in Ireland and internationally. She can be contacted through her website www.margaretaobrien.com
Weather Report, by Margaret O’Brien has been designed so that the Beaufort Wind Scale will give you an entry point to your own inner weather, offering a simple and quick daily self check-in. But this journal is also far more than that, with an invitation to notice something beautiful in your day plus weekly reflections.
All of this regular practice of noticing and naming helps increase a sense of resilience and well-being for the individual. Put simply, you feel better.
For those not familiar with the Beaufort Wind Scale, it is a simple scale that charts the force of the wind from 1 to 12, with clear and specific visual indicators for each point on the scale and its effect on people and the environment.
