Set to open in May 2026 – a brand new visitor facility is currently under development at the former protestant church & heritage centre, Carrick-on-Suir.
The brand new visitor experience will offer a unique look at life during Carrick-on-Suir’s golden age of the Big Houses and the prosperous industries & crafts that flourished on the banks of the River Suir against the backdrop of political turmoil & uprisings through the candid eyes and sharp-tongued words of Dorothea Herbert, poet, writer, artist, proud spinster and social critique of the gentry whose work is as relevant today as it was 200 years ago.
The exhibition will include unique artefacts & stories told through exciting technologies and imaginative displays, and serve as a platform to promote further exploration of the town and its hinterland. The former church will also host the never seen before Michael Coady collection of books, photographs, oral history and memorabilia.
The visitor centre will also include a café, performance area, and multi-function community space upstairs.
