Standing Stones Installation
The “Telling History in Stone” installation is a key feature of Sean Healy Park. This installation comprises a row of limestone standing stones, sculpted by local artist Tony O’Malley and erected in 2004. Each stone is inscribed with motifs and words that encapsulate the history, culture, music, and sport of Carrick-on-Suir.
The inscriptions are based on the poetic work ‘All Souls’ by local poet Michael Coady, celebrating the town’s rich heritage and community spirit.
The photos and inscriptions below were taken by Hugh Faulkner, on Things I Miss group page.
The significance of the standing stones is:
- Cultural Celebration: The standing stones celebrate Carrick-on-Suir’s cultural heritage, highlighting important aspects of local life through artistic expressions.
- Historical Tribute: The inscriptions and motifs on the stones serve as a permanent record of the town’s history, preserving stories and traditions for future generations.
- Community Engagement: The installation not only enhances the park’s aesthetic appeal but also engages the community by providing a space for reflection and connection with the town’s heritage.
