Creative Tides Showcase
Creative Tides is a new artist bursary from Explore Carrick-on-Suir, inviting artists to create a contemporary response to the stories and interpretation within Tides of Time. Their work will be showcased on 21 August at 5pm, as part of Heritage Week. Admission is free, but places are limited and tickets are required. CLICK HERE to book.

- Conor Power – Waiting For A Haul (One Act Play)
- Marie Walsh – A Song For Carrick (Music Composition)
The River’s Clock By Martina Teeny Collender
The River’s Clock is an original 8 to 10 minute spoken word performance that weaves together a series of interconnected poems inspired by the stories, artefacts, people and voices of Carrick-on-Suir. Through lyrical storytelling, the performance imagines the River Suir as an ancient timekeeper whose waters have witnessed generations of lives passing along its banks.
The river becomes both narrator and memory keeper, reflecting on the people who built, worked, travelled, celebrated and endured in Carrick-on-Suir. Each poem represents a different “hour” on the river’s clock, moving between historical moments and contemporary reflections, revealing how the past continues to ripple through the present.
Artist bio
Martina Teeny Collender is an Irish, Working-Class, Playwright, Poet and Writer living and working in the South East of Ireland with her beloved Ellie. Martina is thrilled and honoured to apart of this very special project, very close to her heart. Waiting for a Haul by Conor Power
Fresh from finishing his junior cert exams, a Carrick on Suir teenager joins his grandfather’s snapnet fishing crew for the first time. While gone ashore after making a haul and awaiting their turn to make another, they embark on a conversation that ebbs and flows from the educational to the emotional.
Artist bio
Conor Power has written a number of pantomime scripts for Carrick on Suir Musical Society in the last few years alongside his wife Sandra, each of which has been well received by local audiences. As a swimmer, former snap net fisherman, one of the founding members of the Carrick Paddlers, and a proud Carrick man, Conor has had a lifelong enthusiasm for the river Suir and the people that you find around it. The theme Creative Tides encouraged him to write his first one act play; Waiting for a Haul.
A Song for Carrick by Marie Walsh
‘A song for Carrick’ captures and honours some of the significant landmarks and key historical events that took place in Carrick on Suir in the 1700 and 1800’s. The song is inspired by the heron on the river Suir and a walking tour of Carrick by the historian Tom Walsh. It is the story of the famine, of Ormond Castle, the beauty of Slievenamon and honours the work of Dorothea Herbert.
Artist bio
Marie Walsh is a Lecturer and Researcher at the Technological University of the Shannon and is based in TUS Clonmel Campus. She is also a writer, storyteller and singer-songwriter having played in several bands over the years. Marie’s songs are folk style who believes it is all about telling a brilliant story that the audience connects with.
