We’re excited to announce a major milestone for Carrick-on-Suir: thanks to funding from Fáilte Ireland through the EU Just Transition Fund, Explore Carrick-on-Suir has secured €352,647 to transform the Carrick-on-Suir Heritage Centre into a dynamic cultural destination for locals and visitors alike.
To celebrate, we’re inviting the community to be part of two special Heritage Week events this August — both rooted in stories, memories, and the people who make this town unique.
August 11th–13th: Community Mural Workshops with Fintan Magee
Join Fintan Magee for three days of free, hands-on creative workshops that will shape a brand-new public mural for the town.
Day 1: Explore Carrick’s river heritage — we’ll photograph the River Suir, historic buildings, and coracle boats. We’re also collecting black-and-white photos of the river from your family albums.
Day 2: Bring your old photos, letters, and mementos. Share the stories behind them, and help shape the mural’s themes. We’ll also run storytelling activities and portrait sessions around town.
Day 3: Recreate historical photos using modern-day locals — bridging the past and present in powerful new imagery that will feed into the mural design.
August 16th: “Your Story, Our History” Live Panel at Ormond Castle Market
Join historian and content creator Davy Holden as he hosts a special live storytelling panel featuring local voices and memories of Carrick — from river life and local trades to sports, music, and everyday moments. Bring your stories, old photos, and artifacts — or just come to listen and reflect.
These contributions will become part of The Tides of Time Oral Archive, the town’s growing permanent collection of voices at the Heritage Centre.
