The Carrick-on-Suir Musical Society, originally known as the Carrick-on-Suir Amateur Operatic Society, found its new home in 2003 with the purchase of the Strand Theatre. Established in 1974 by local brothers Michael and Christy Butler, the Strand theatre underwent a major €1.5 million refurbishment and expansion between 2005 and 2006, transforming it into the stunning 360-seat venue it is today.
Founded in 1943, this multi-award winning musical society has spent more than 75 years entertaining the people of Carrick-on-Suir & the surrounding area, hosting over 113 productions… and loving every minute! To date, the society has won over 110 major awards across AIMS , Choral Festivals & the Wexford international Light Opera Festival. Not bad when you consider their first win came in only 1973!
Each year, the Carrick-on-Suir Musical Society presents an annual pantomime and a Spring Production, featuring shows like Chess, Hello Dolly!, Sister Act, and the Irish Adult Amateur Premiere of Phantom of the Opera, all staged in the Dick Meany Auditorium.
