Built in the 12th century, Kilkenny Castle was the Butlers’ stronghold for nearly 600 years, shaping Kilkenny into a vibrant city. Set in lush parkland, the castle was revamped in Victorian times and taken over by the Irish State in 1969. After extensive restorations, it now attracts thousands of visitors annually.

The central block features a library, drawing room, nursery, and bedrooms adorned in 1830s elegance. The magnificent 19th-century Picture Gallery in the east wing showcases the Butler Family’s fine collection of paintings. The lively spirit of Kilkenny still echoes through this historic gem.
